Best Roti Prata in Singapore?

Ok, these guys don’t need much of an introduction since they’ve been around a really long time (to read all about their history, Dr Tay of ieatishootipost has written all about them here) and they’ve received tons of accolades for being one of the best pratas on the island. Whilst they’re just a stone’s throw away from where I live, I try not to visit them too often, because prata isn’t really very healthy to begin with. 😛

The best time to visit them is during the mornings or lunchtime (they close around 6 in the evening) as that’s when you can be sure they make their kosongs (plain prata without any additional ingredients) and egg pratas fresh on the spot. On weekends, if you’re lucky and a kosong-eater like me, they’re continually frying a batch of kosongs as a reserve to get the queue moving quicker. If you’ve got a special request for Coin Prata or Garlic Prata, be prepared to wait another 5-10 minutes, on top of queuing.

So why do I say they’re the best? If you’re familiar with the Thomson stretch even up to the Seletar area, you’d know there are a ton of famous prata shops that have gotten rave reviews. I’ve tried them all and IMHO, some were really flaccid and there was one that even tasted like it came out of the freezer from a packet. A kosong in my opinion, is the benchmark when it comes to a prata competition and in the case for these guys, their kosong is incredibly fragrant and crispy on the outside yet fluffy on the inside. I usually dunk the kosong in their fish curry sauce (which also is the most fragrant and thick amongst their competitors, some of the other prata shops’ are just really watered down and lack the kick and tanginess).

Well, enough said. You have to try it to believe it! 🙂
